I set out to find the ideal pants and I think I came pretty close with the Klim Chinook pants (2009 model). I figured I wanted the Baja in the boot model, however I ended up with the Chinook.
In Arizona I ride year round so I really wanted a pair of pant that could cross over for the heat and cooler temperatures. I wanted something adjustable for cool mornings and hot afternoons that also had maybe just a little rain protection.
Since none of my local dealers (that I know of) carry Klim. I did all my research on-line
-I have a pair of Revolt pants that fit nicely so I knew the size I needed and I am happy with the fit!
- For my area (Arizona) I prefer an in the boot design unlike my Revolts.
The GOOD
- The waist has a nice comfortable velcro adjuster on both sides. The inside rear portion also had a silicone print to keep my jersey in.
- There's a good number of stretch panels in the right places, plus thicker leather inside the knees. I melted my Revolts so this leather patch is very welcome.
- The lowest part of the leg is pure mesh, which makes it very comfortable tucking into boots.
- The main zip vents on the pants work well and seem durable.
- Built in hip pads are nice.
The BAD:
- Not enough venting for AZ summers. I should have got the Baja pants.
- I could always use another pocket.
- The pants get hot. Of course it is 105 degrees outside right now.
- The hip pads could be a bit thicker.
I'm impressed overall and curious to see how well they will stand up to the abuse ahead.
